Southend United v Stockport County- Saturday 28 August 2021( 17.20 )
Roots Hall Stadium,
Victoria Avenue,
Southend- on Sea,
SS2 6NQ
Roots Hall is a stadium that always leant itself to a tasty encounter of which there have been many over the years and the stats ( home and away) bear testimony to the nip and tuck nature of games twixt the two clubs- always close…seldom dull, and it is a real sadness to hear United may soon move elsewhere!
Currently the stats ( taking in Roots Hall and EP games)run – Southend 11 County 9 Draws 9 , so this latest game is one for County to start tilting that balance in our direction!
The last time we showed in SS2 was in November 2012, an unhappy occasion that saw the Shrimpers win an FA Cup tie 3-0, and before that in August 2010 there was one of those enthralling games that looked to be going our way when a George Donnelly goal gave us the lead on 83 minutes, only for a last gasper from Blair Sturrock on 90+ to square matters and force a share of the points.
A decent County following on 28 August would be great and be sure , with Southend looking to impress in the National League, but notwithstanding the excellent coverage that BT gives of National League games, it is increasingly disappointing to see games switched to days and times with scant regard for the paying supporters especially those travelling long distances to support their team and keep the national game alive!

Something to Drink ?
Roots Hall is just a reasonably short walk from the sea front so many will feel the need to drift in that direction, but for those saving on shoe leather and looking for some decent ale could do worse than seek out :-
Far Post & Shrimpers Bar- doesn`t need much seeking out as it is at the football ground. It is some years since we were last here so I cannot vouch for whether or not away fans will be admitted.
Close by alternatives , are both also on Victoria Avenue:-
Blue Boar. |
Spread Eagle, and Blue Boar just 0.1 m and 0.2m away respectively.
The obvious caveat to the above is the uncertainty on regulations that may or may not be prevailing , but we hope this information will prove a helpful adjunct to an enjoyable visit to Roots Hall.
