Finishing fifth in 2019-20, Boreham Wood easily made the play offs after an impressive campaign missing out however as they again did in the traumatically interupted 2020-21 season.
 
`The Wood` are always a big ask of away teams who usually find them in lively form , so County will have to be at their very best to avoid an early season set back at Meadow Park, although it is comforting perhaps to note that live wire Kobongo Tshimanga has now moved on !

The Blue and White Army , were mainly housed on the open, sun bleached terrace behind one  goal, in 2019-20,  and  seemed to enjoy the experience ...until the game started !

Est Journey Time: 3 hrs 30 minutes.

Parking is available adjacent to the ground on Brook Rd car park, and also 5 mins walk away on the Civic car park

To Elstree & Boreham Wood (Thameslink Line) – From station walk through High Street, go straight over first roundabout, at next roundabout go down first exit (Brook road) continue down about 500 yards take right turn after car park (Broughinge Road) Follow Road to entrance

First off  at 0.3 m away on Shenley Road ( WD6 1EQ) Hart & Spool – Elstree Inn….







Then an altogether posher spot , but you may feel like risking it……

The Toby Carvery on Studio Way is 0.5 m from the ground ( WD6 5JY)


You may chance into The Wishing Well , also on Shenley Road, but beware they do not offer real ales.

Also the above information was obtained very recently and to the best of old hedgie`s knowledge is accurate although whatever Covid regs prevail at the time of the game may affect access etc.

This day will rank in infamy    with some of the darkest in our Club`s history- the owners of Stockport County have sacked Jim Gannon…..a dreadful decision......... totally bereft of merit, and one heralded by a shamefully inadequate announcement, as insulting to County fans as it is to Jim. Champions under Jim in our last completed season, fourth in the league after as impressive a win as any Club Chair could wish to witness from his team on Tuesday, despite the interrupted nature of the current season, and clearly playing well, so this smacks of something other than prudence or good decision making and as for being rational and fair………….. “Where`s the goals gonna come from”-is a familiar refrain from those wanting County to ship in a new striker every other week, and County once again fully answered that one with “ from almost everywhere” as goals from defenders Sam Minihan and Ash Palmer secured all the points at the Racecourse Ground today against Wrexham. A 2-0 County lead at half time seemed to signal a rout, but Wrexham fought well upon the re-start and made a real match of it , albeit that an imperious display by County`s superb back line limited them largely to shots from distance. The defensive display from JG`s boys, in the second 45 minutes, if somewhat hard on the nerves, was again excellent , but a late goal to the Welshmen made the last few minutes tenser than perhaps they should have been. Stockport County 4 Accrington Stanley 2 ( Football League 2) Saturday 20 April 2024

          A friend captured the situation nicely as we both descended the steps at the Cheadle End “ there are not many days like that” he said ,and he hit the spot perfectly, we had both just come away from a County game that finished as a party as County disposed of the challenge from Accrington Stanley with a comfortable 4-2 win, and the old place dissolved in a glorious mix of excitement, and emotion as the blues were presented with the League 2 Championship trophy! I say that it was comfortable, but I thought Accrington made a good fist of competing at times, in the end beaten by another clutch of top-class goals- 2 from Wootton , who I thought edged M.O.M ,and one each from   Evans and Sarcevic which did the biz for Dave Challinor`s boys. Their 8 th win in succession took County`s points tally with one match remaining to a mammoth 92 points- still 7 clear of the rest and set up a spectacularly good party on the pitch after the final whistle -more on this later in the repor
