Stalybridge Celtic 1 Stockport County 1 ( Vanarama National League North) 28 December 2015

Well…..this was better…..not great….but definitely better than what County laid before us on Saturday! It would not be County of course if there wasn’t a roller coaster ride in store for County fans who travelled in prodigious numbers to Bower Fold, and this one went to the death as many have done before. With Charlie Russell lining up for the blues, and fully justifying his inclusion, County, enlivened also by the energy brought to the field of play by Delial Brewster, gave an encouraging showing for the most part.    Welcome return for Charlie Russell ! They defended well, and resisted some blatant provocation from Celtic who, particularly in the first half, constantly looked to get County reduced in numbers ( when in fact they weren`t kicking lumps out of them or having elbow to face contact as Chippendale had on O’Hanlon   without sanctions at one point). But……..having done the hard part…..and snatched a goal via Jonny Margetts that looked to have se

Stockport County 1 Harrogate Town 2 ( Vanarama National League North) 26 December 2015

County sank to another demoralizing home defeat at the hands of a competent ,but by no means unbeatable, Harrogate Town side that must have been amazed by the ease with which the points were secured , in front of a bumper crowd at Edgeley Park. Two goals were enough to accomplish the deed for the Yorkshire team, one each from Jerry Yates and Jordan Thewliss to be precise. Both of these efforts were well taken decent finishes, but each was regrettably also the result of chronically bad defending by County which Chris Smalley will wish me not to dwell overlong on. There seemed to have been no noticeable change in County’s approach from that which faired so badly just 7 days ago against Boston. Last to most balls and likely to do something awful with it when they did win it, County disappointed their supporters once again.   Delial Brewster ( centre) by Andrew Machin There was some consolation midst perhaps the most insipid showing from County for some time, in

Away Ground Guide 12- Stalybridge Celtic (Monday 28 December 2015.)

Club Name:            Stalybridge Celtic Nickname:               'Bridge, The Celts, Celtic, The Badgers Founded:                1909 (possibly 1906) Ground Name:        Bower Fold Ground Capacity:   6,500 (1,300 seated) Admission Price:                                  ADULTS - £ 12                                  CONCESSION (Disabled & Over 65's) -   £7                                  UNDER 14 - £2( if accompanied by Adult)- this a late increase in price. Bower Fold is a decent stadium for this level, and could do a job in the F.L if they ever got that far. Plenty of cover and adequate seating available ,although it must be said that if some of the stewards paid as much attention to stopping fans encroaching onto the playing area as they do   trying to   stop said supporters peacefully watching the game, I for one would have been the better pleased! Sustenance! season 2013/14.....Celtic got caught out on the nosh fr
