Preview- Altrincham v County ( 11 July 2017 at 7.45) by Ian Watts
A report , with the usual crop of action photos, from County's 2nd pre season game with Altricncham tomorrow, will be published around noon on Wednesday, meanwhile, County Historian Ian Watts has penned this excellent preview.....
After the
leg stretching exercise on Saturday - not that the management would regard it
as such with their belief that every game is a challenge for the players -
pre-season goes up a few levels on Tuesday night with the trip to last season's
divisional rivals Altrincham.
The hosts
used three managers in their dreadful 16-17 season as they dropped from
Vanarama National to the Evo-stick Premier Division without stopping in
National Lge North for more than one season. As is often the case the multiple
managers meant a massive turnaround in players last season. On Saturday the
Robins were back in action with yet another new manager and another tranche of
new players, bolstering their retained list.
That
Friendly took place at Whitchurch Alport and Alty drew the game 1-1 despite
playing the last 30 minutes with 10 men due to injuries.
The players
used were
Tim Deasy
(Tony Thompson), Trialist (Lewis Short), Trialist (Ben Harrison_, Chris Lynch
Sam Heathcote (), Clayton Mcdonald (John Disney), Jake Moult, John Johnston,
Laurence Taylor (Kyle Brownhill), Josh Hancock (Sam Sheridan), James Poole,
Jerome Wright. The other starters were replaced by Trialists.
Poole put
the Robins ahead in the first half but Alport were soon level.
After the
game the Robins' boss Phil Parkinson told their website that his men did well
at the back and dominated midfield but he is still working on the forward line
and he hoped to bring in a Centre Forward early this week. So the Hatters may
be facing at least one name not in the list above.
Former
Hatters involved on Saturday were:
Kyle Brownhill (Full Back) who was released by
County in May 2013 after 5 appearances, and joined Burnley and has since faced
County for Hyde United, and was an unused sub for AFC Telford U, and Altrincham
Kyle Brownhill. |
31-year-old Goalkeeper
Tim Deasy joined the Hatters from Macclesfield Town in the summer of 2006, but
did not get a first team competitive game, and spent the last weeks of the
season at Salisbury City. He has since faced us for Barrow, Gateshead and Altrincham
Tim Deasy |
Newquay born
Right back John Disney who was capped at Under-16 to U18 levels for the Republic
of Ireland whilst a County youth team player. He had one year on a pro contract
without breaking into the first team and left for Northwich Victoria in the close
season 2010, Facing County for his new club a few weeks later. Since then we
have faced John in games against Hednesford Town. He has joined Alty this
summer from, Connahs Quay Nomads.
Another new
signing, having left FCUM, is Midfield man Sam Sheridan. After 55 Hatters
appearances in our first two non-league seasons having joined from Bolton Wanderers,
Sam moved on to Barrow via a loan spell at Southport. He faced County for the Holker
Street side, and later for Chorley, and FCUM for the last two seasons.
Sam Sheridan |
Also on the
Robins books is Sefton Gonzales...........
.......... the forward who finished his second spell at EP
as a substitute in the 1-0 win at Bradford Park Avenue that ended last season's
away campaign.
