Conference North review 6 Dec
With County's run of unbeaten home League games well and truly ended by Guiseley, attention at the final whistle quickly turned to the other results at the top and the damage caused. Remarkably County held on to 6th place - although this admittedly was helped by the fact that the two sides directly below them, Oxford city and Worcester City were not in action. Boston United brought themselves back to level on points with the Hatters thanks to an equaliser from Marc Newsham (74). This prevented their visitors Brackley Town from going home with the points as seemed possible after Sam Whitall (17) had scored.
The Hatters lost ground on all 5 teams above them although the only sides to take full advantage of the slip up were the top three. The performance of the day - after Guiseley's - came at Solihull Moors. Moors established a 3-0 first half lead thanks to goals from Ryan Beswick (6), Reece Fleet (34) and an Omar Bogle (39) penalty. With keeper Ashlee Jones sent off after conceding the penalty goal it looked all over for the visiting Lowestoft Town team. They gave their followers some hope by pulling one goals back through Sam Gaughran (44) before half time. Remarkably in the second half Jack Ainsley (48) and Jake Reed (65) earned the ten men a draw..
Chorley 's match saw the only goalless draw of the day as neither they nor visitors Colwyn Bay could find the net.
At the top it's as you were. Barrow recorded a run-of-the mill 2-0 away win. Andy Cook (21) and ex-County player Danny Pilkington (53) got the goals that put paid to Gainsborough Trinity, who also finished the game with 10 men.
Guiseley's win kept them in second place ahead of AFC Fylde who scored 3 goals against Stalybridge Celtic. Celtic stayed in 20th place despite those the heavy defeat with Danny Lloyd (10) and Ritchie Allen (63) making it 2-0 before Danny Rowe (84) finishing the scoring.
This batch of results means County cannot realistically make the top five at the half-way stage even with a win at North Ferriby.
At the bottom Hyde took full advantage of Gloucester City having no game and recorded a second successive Saturday win. Last weekend it was a 4-3 win in the FA Trophy at Tamworth, this time it took just an early goal from Connor Hughes (13) over County's next league opponents. The win was their second of the Conference North campaign and takes them into double figure points after completing half their fixtures.
The clubs in 16th to 18th all increased the gap on the relegation spots. I've mentioned Lowestoft, and Brackley. Leamington recorded a 1-1 draw. Glenn Walker (3) scored first for visitors Hednesford Town but the home side found second half equaliser 20 minutes into the second half through Danny Newton. Meanwhile the Yorkshire derby at Harrogate Town went the way of Bradford Park Avenue. A goal in each half from Chibuzor Chilaka (6) and Danny Frost (53) wrapped up the points.
