Dover
Athletic have a rich history, catch this here….
Recent seasons have seen Athletic in a battle to survive due to the prevailing Covid situation and the economic consequences this brought with it.
Starting with a negative points haul this season sees our hosts playing catch up again this season - it is County`s task to add to their woes!
The
Crabble Athletic Stadium accommodates 5745 specs, with seats for 1500 of those.
Normally
fans are not segregated at the ground, but we have been , being housed under the roof of the Dover End
Terrace. But.....beware the stadium is atop a mighty hill - a tester going up....a nightmare on the down bit after the game , if it`s dark ...........
The away stand can accommodate 2,000
fans, but the
ground generally is also quite exposed so ... after summers excesses are done......get those layers on...then add another as insurance against the wind that comes off the English Channel.
Refreshments available inside include; Cheeseburger , Quarter Pounder Burgers , Hot Dogs and a selection of filled rolls . Usually, the Crabble is an enjoyable and a memorable ground to visit, and I do recall the hot dog was excellent .
Ash Palmer was not that far behind Festus for honours , as JG`s delicious intuition of playing the pair together paid off again with gold plated knobs on!
And then there was Frank…..so needing a goal to
boost a flagging confidence, responding with the goal of just about any season-a
real peach to win the game for the blues- and Goal of the Season for the
imperious Frank Mulhern !

County reserved a wholehearted 14 man
work fest within one of their very best sunshine team performances of the season, last time we were here on a day that otherwise was notable only for torrents of spirit
sapping rain that seemed never to stop.
At the end of the game, after the
blues had given almost 250 travelling County fans, 90 odd minutes of first
class effort and skill, my notes were a mushy pulp.
A
team performance was it….yes indeed it was, with lots of graft going
down all over the sodden Kentish turf from those decked out in blue, and it was
all the more a win to cherish as it was over a full time outfit, who from first
kick until last struggled to compete
with Jim Gannon`s men.
The 250 need mentioning too, as their
support was loud and long and particularly helpful after the break when, for a
while, Dover took the game to County.
Festus in form ! |

Frank- excellent ! |
.....and he sets off for the Away End having scored his blinder ! |

Real Ale Thereabouts;-
First off a new recommendation which is almost at the stadium on Crabble Avenue ( CT17 0JB).
Cricketers
Then 2 old hedgie recommended last time:_
Just 0.2 m away is `Three Cups` on
Crabble Hill ( CT17 0RX)…….
Then….0.4 m away we have the `Bull` on
London Rd ( CT17 0TG)
All 3 of the above are highly recommended.
