By George ! by Man in a Hat.
As
you all know, every year on 29th June we meet up in the Florist Pub
on Shaw Heath, in order to celebrate George Haigh’s birthday, and to chew the
County cud.
Well,
this year is no different, and we will gather on Thursday from 4.30pm
This
year, we’re absolutely bloomin’ delighted to advise that the great man himself,
yes, George Haigh, will be joining us between 5pm & 6pm.
Just
in case there are any unenlightened readers out there, George is the oldest
surviving former County player, and this year, will be celebrating his 102nd
birthday!

In
fact, we think George is the oldest surviving professional footballer in the
world! Can you prove otherwise?
This
is the occasion on which we indulge in drinking Purple Velvet (port &
Guinness), which according to George, was the drink of choice for the County
players of the thirties - before the game!
So
why not drop in and give George your regards. You can even ask him about Purple
Velvet if you don’t believe us.
Now,
George is too old for birthday cards, so you don’t have to bother with that,
but those close to him do say that he likes a nice hat, so you could wear your
favourite if you really want to impress him.
All
welcome. Hope to see you there.
