Stockport County Ladies first X1, sit nicely in second position in the league, but on Wednesday evening ( March 19) at Woodley, Stockport`s Under 18 team play host to US side Grinnell BGM, who are over for a friendly game.
The Grinnell/BGM girls soccer team has been together for a number of years., and most of the girls have been playing together since they were 7-, 8- and 9-years-old, and are looked after expertly by Head Coach Paul Durr.
Head Coach; Paul Durr |
Coach Durr, who is also president of the Mid-Iowa Futbol Club, has organized a trip of a lifetime for the team.
The Mid-Iowa Futbol Club sponsored the girls team to go to England and Wales in March 2014 to receive professional training, play three games vs. local English and Wales’ teams and go to watch some professional soccer games, organized through Challenger World Tours.
The trip , while focusing on soccer, also includes a sightseeing tour of London and a trip to Chester, one of only two remaining English cities with a surrounding Roman wall – it used to be a Roman fort.
The tour itinerary for the team ,who each had to stump up $3000 for the trip, includes;-
• Visit Windsor Castle
• Stop at Stratford Upon Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare.
• A walking ghost tour of Chester, considered one of the most haunted cities in Great Britain.
• Visit to Snowdonia National Park.
The team will also have some “free time” in Liverpool, home of the Beatles.
We wish the Grinnell BGM team well for their visit to the UK, and look forward to an exciting game at Woodley on Wednesday.
The game commences at 19.30, admission is free, so what`s stopping you ? Get down there and give `em a cheer!
