With almost 2 months to wait for the start of the season, County`s
first at Conference North level, it is time for me to offer my personal update
of how things are looking at the sharp end at Edgeley Park.
County`s management team of Ian Bogie and Alan Lord have given
the distinct impression of putting together a decent squad.
There`s a nice mix of experience and ambition about the new
recruits as well, starting off with Phil Jevens, snapped up from Hyde after
notching 15 goals at Conference Premier level last term. That`s one striker
.....the second capture in this department by the Hatters Kristian Dennis takes
a step up after notching 40 odd goals for Curzon Ashton in all competitions last
season.
So.....a good start then , but all Cloughie `s successful
teams had a solid base at the back so what have Ian and Alan sorted in this
regard. Well......2 full backs for a
start. Firstly Kyle Jacobs , a right back from FC United and Stephen O`Halloran
ex Nuneaton Town, both have loads of experience and apparently `get forward` as
often as possible.
Central defence is well served with Keiran Charnock having
been tempted back ( hope the knees and stuff hold out!),and the highly
promising Jordan Fagbola deciding to stick with County . Hope he prospers- he
certainly deserves to! James Tunnicliffe is the third central defender on the
books still having a year to run on his existing contract. He needs to improve
on last years performances which he really should do at Conference North level!
With County neglecting to sign Richard O`Donnell , keeping
duties fall on the young shoulders of Ian Ormson and Lewis King- both have
promising careers ahead of them and
Ormson holds the shirt at the moment, but I expect King to snatch it from him
sooner rather than later in the season..
In midfield , County have acquired a goal scoring talent from
Chester FC -Iain Howard . The 25 year
old netted 35 times in 111 starts so should be one to watch, as should ex
Everton junior Ian Craney, and Brandon Windsor who impressed with one or two
cameo performances last term in a struggling County team.
I do not think I have missed anyone out. I would dearly like
to add the names of Alex`s Meaney and Kenyon to the list but ...alas I fear they will be
away to forge decent careers elsewhere!

Looking forward to seeing our new players perform as a team.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Pauline.......its as much about attitude as Ability and the teams attitude was just not right last season, maybe influenced by the off field miss-management strategy that was prevailing!
