27th Stockport County Memorial Day- Friday 28 August 2026
Despite appalling weather, Stockport County supporters were again able to honour the memory of supporters, players ,Club officials & staff, who are no longer with us ,via the 27th Stockport County Memorial Day.
As you will know, this supporter organised event is unique to County – a tradition enacted in the streets and on the hills around Marple Bridge every year on the Friday prior to every season.
This season saw organiser Ian Lancashire, forced to re-arrange the date due to unavoidable circumstances., moving the event to today.
But it was alarming to see the streets of Marple Bridge, lashed with a humungous downpour that descended from ink black skies onto the Cheshire village.
But there were 50 inside the Royal Scot and , including Michael- a Kingsbridge Hatter, who had come down from Devon for the occasion, so go ahead it did !

Lancs got attenders to sign the `book of remembrance which they did readily, eventually summoning all to the bar for the first traditional toast to those who have passed…….
There was a great show of support again from the Club represented by Club President Steve Bellis , CEO Gavin Bailey , Do F Damien Allen and a clutch of other officials and former players including Paul Jones, who were all fully involved.
Looking out from the Hotel, it was apparent that the rain was no longer bouncing down, so the group quickly hastened out of the door heading up the nearby hill to the church yard.
Steve Bellis took charge at this point honouring the memory of those no longer with us, calling upon Gavin Bailey and Damien Allen to lay the wreaths from Club and Supporters Cooperative on the Captain`s grave.
The group then headed off down the hill back to the Royal Scot.
Soon after Lancs summoned those present for the second and final toast of the day, which was nicely observed by all concerned.
Despite everything the event had gone off well and done full justice to honouring late supporters, officials, players & staff`s memory- well done all who made the event possible!
