Goals Galore !

 

It`s an old cliché and one that`s hard to dispute, that `goals win matches`, and not every goal included in this look back on 2021-22 were winners but this collection of images captured by hedgegrower, hopefully will bring back good memories of a season to remember.

First off, we have Rydel`s winner at home against Wrexham. County had scored just 4 goals in the previous 7 matches up to this point thus County fans took heart when they came back from a goal down to win via goals from Madden and Rydel!


 

 

 

 

Old hedgie makes no apology for including 2 images from County`s next game v Weymouth , another one in which they went a goal down early on to pull it back through a couple of crackers from Madden and Crankshaw on his debut. It bucketed rain almost all the game – County`s winner seeing the sun burst from behind the clouds in celestial salute!


 

 

 

 

There were few alarms in the next game at home to Shots, Madden keeping the scoring up with the only goal of the game.

 


 

 

 

 

A somewhat desultory season then started to perk up as Dave Conlon took temporary charge of the team on the departure of the previous manager, County going nap in response winning 5-2 away to Dover Athletic, these two offerings of Madden and Hogan`s goals were the pick!

 



 

 

 

 

With DC installed as gaffer County went nap more than once soon after…..firstly against mighty Bolton Wanderers who we polished off 5-3 after giving them a 2 goal start at 1-3. The image chosen from this is possibly the County goal of the season in my view- Ash Palmer`s , late headed equaliser in normal time…….


 

 

 

 

 

 

………..then  the blues cracked  Kings Lynn scoring 5 without reply- the goal frenzy started by this belter from Keano!


 

 

 

 

 

A hat-trick by Cranks saw County cruise to another crushing win in the arctic conditions at Wealdstone, but hedgegrower`s favourite goal was the first from Quigley that set the ball rolling!

 


 

 

 

County enjoyed 2 big wins against Alty over Xmas – Madden`s pen that pierced the mists of Moss Lane to beat keeper Thompson is the choice from those matches- I missed the superb strike by Collar !

 


 

 

A goal in each half from Palmer and Collar beat Dag & Red at their place, and it`s Collar`s effort that is offered here.

 


 

 

 

County went on a scoring spree next scoring for fun, the 5-0 win away at Barnet including one each for Collar ( the decisive first one) and Hogan…………..

 

 



 

 

 

……………..then 3-1 at Bromley including the excellent opener from Madden…..

 


 

 

It was 2-0 to County at Aldershot with Crankshaws effort the best of 2 good goals.


 

 

 

Newby`s opener was the pick in the blues 3-0 win at Kings Lynn…..


 

 

 

………..and you takes your pick of these 2 from Madden in the 5-0 destruction of Southend United.

 


 


 

 

 

 

After mixed fortunes against Boreham Wood, Chesterfield and Wrexham, County had 2 games to secure the title which they did in rare style nicking a crucial first win late on via Madden`s umpteenth vital goal of the season….

 


 

 

 

.............and clinching matters with goals by Madden and Collar in the final match against FC Halifax Town.

 



 

 

 

This has not been intended to be a complete record of an epic season- merely a collection of hedgegrower`s photo`s from it.

Simply Disgraceful ! This day will rank in infamy    with some of the darkest in our Club`s history- the owners of Stockport County have sacked Jim Gannon…..a dreadful decision......... totally bereft of merit, and one heralded by a shamefully inadequate announcement, as insulting to County fans as it is to Jim. Champions under Jim in our last completed season, fourth in the league after as impressive a win as any Club Chair could wish to witness from his team on Tuesday, despite the interrupted nature of the current season, and clearly playing well, so this smacks of something other than prudence or good decision making and as for being rational and fair………….. Sadly the Club`s owners rather added to the anger their foolish decision has already triggered, by stating that the decision was not results based, but based on `culture`.   Jim is a proven quality Manager , who knows what it takes to make County tick, has done so many times in the past, and   has forgotten more about Co

Wrexham 1 Stockport County 2 ( Vanarama National League) 31 August 2019

“Where`s the goals gonna come from”-is a familiar refrain from those wanting County to ship in a new striker every other week, and County once again fully answered that one with “ from almost everywhere” as goals from defenders Sam Minihan and Ash Palmer secured all the points at the Racecourse Ground today against Wrexham. A 2-0 County lead at half time seemed to signal a rout, but Wrexham fought well upon the re-start and made a real match of it , albeit that an imperious display by County`s superb back line limited them largely to shots from distance. The defensive display from JG`s boys, in the second 45 minutes, if somewhat hard on the nerves, was again excellent , but a late goal to the Welshmen made the last few minutes tenser than perhaps they should have been. Notts County 2 Stockport County 1 ( Vanarama National League) Saturday 23 October 2021

        Perhaps expectations were a touch excessive, after all most visits to Meadow Lane usually result in a stiff test from a home side hell bent on victory. Today was no exception to this as County were outplayed for 94 and a half minutes of the 96 played, by a Notts County side drilled to do the basics correctly, and doing just that. Almost all their passes, no matter the situation, inevitably found a man in a black and white shirt who knew thereafter precisely what they should do with it, whereas if County had no shortage of possession at times, they appeared to be largely lacking a basic pattern to work to that went beyond the sideways pass, and the occasional long ball from Rooney.
