It is but a short hop from Stockport to the J Davidson Stadium, which has previously had a capacity of just over 6000, but recent moves by Trafford Borough Council have thrown that figure in doubt causing Alty much heartache and hard work to resolve matters.

Fortunately Altrincham FC have responded well, working hard , with Trafford BC, to remove the restrictions  in place on the J Davidson Stadium , doing well to complete Phase 1 of remedial works ( mainly on pop side terracing ) on time as required. 

Last I heard Phase 2  was being actioned in a timely manner , so well done all concerned !

A goal by James Jennings on 82 minutes secured County a 1-1 draw on Boxing Day 2020 at this venue. DC`s blues will be looking to better that performance, and their current record suggests that they just might , but they will have to be alert as Phil Parkinson`s Alty have proved doughty opponents this season especially at home!

Simply Disgraceful ! This day will rank in infamy    with some of the darkest in our Club`s history- the owners of Stockport County have sacked Jim Gannon…..a dreadful decision......... totally bereft of merit, and one heralded by a shamefully inadequate announcement, as insulting to County fans as it is to Jim. Champions under Jim in our last completed season, fourth in the league after as impressive a win as any Club Chair could wish to witness from his team on Tuesday, despite the interrupted nature of the current season, and clearly playing well, so this smacks of something other than prudence or good decision making and as for being rational and fair………….. Wrexham 1 Stockport County 2 ( Vanarama National League) 31 August 2019

“Where`s the goals gonna come from”-is a familiar refrain from those wanting County to ship in a new striker every other week, and County once again fully answered that one with “ from almost everywhere” as goals from defenders Sam Minihan and Ash Palmer secured all the points at the Racecourse Ground today against Wrexham. A 2-0 County lead at half time seemed to signal a rout, but Wrexham fought well upon the re-start and made a real match of it , albeit that an imperious display by County`s superb back line limited them largely to shots from distance. The defensive display from JG`s boys, in the second 45 minutes, if somewhat hard on the nerves, was again excellent , but a late goal to the Welshmen made the last few minutes tenser than perhaps they should have been. Stockport County 4 Accrington Stanley 2 ( Football League 2) Saturday 20 April 2024

          A friend captured the situation nicely as we both descended the steps at the Cheadle End “ there are not many days like that” he said ,and he hit the spot perfectly, we had both just come away from a County game that finished as a party as County disposed of the challenge from Accrington Stanley with a comfortable 4-2 win, and the old place dissolved in a glorious mix of excitement, and emotion as the blues were presented with the League 2 Championship trophy! I say that it was comfortable, but I thought Accrington made a good fist of competing at times, in the end beaten by another clutch of top-class goals- 2 from Wootton , who I thought edged M.O.M ,and one each from   Evans and Sarcevic which did the biz for Dave Challinor`s boys. Their 8 th win in succession took County`s points tally with one match remaining to a mammoth 92 points- still 7 clear of the rest and set up a spectacularly good party on the pitch after the final whistle -more on this later in the repor
