With very great pleasure, hedgegrower joins Help the Hatters ( whose statement follows) in recording our congratulations to our Manager James Gannon on a very special occasion......

Help the Hatters are delighted to join the rest of the County Family in congratulating our Manager James Gannon on reaching the milestone of 500 games in charge at the Club!

Since the group`s inception in 2007, Help the Hatters has tackled many projects, as a polyglot collection of skilled men and women, enthusiastic amateurs, and those that just…. plain `loved County` came together and pooled their resources to best serve the Club and its Manager.

It is no coincidence that James Gannon was County Manager at the time, and his presence at the Club inspired the group then….and has continued to do so to this present day!

The initial project was a large scale re build at County`s run down training facility at Manor Farm Timperley, and James being James he did not leave us to it but weighed in to help many times, needless to say the project was a success!

James has been consistently supportive of Help the Hatters over the years and always has time for people despite the pressures of his job.

Many of us remember James as a player, a massively competitive player and one that finished up top County scorer in 1991-92 with an incredible 16 goals for the season, simply fantastic for a central defender/ midfielder!

But we also recall how, as a Manager, he saved us from relegation in 2006, and guided County to promotion

in 2008 via a glorious playoff final at Wembley, being robbed of taking us back to the Championship by a 10-point deduction due to club`s fall into administration the following season.

Returning in 2016, Jim guided County to their first Cheshire Senior Cup Final win in 50 years( see above photo) with a 2-1 win against Tranmere Rovers, before  his meticulous planning and coaching saw us win promotion as National League North Champions in an unforgettable 2018–19 season.

Throughout all this JG has always been approachable to supporters, and the hard working members of Help the Hatters particularly appreciate the help that he has given us over the years.

Jim has been a diamond as far as County supporters are concerned, whether it be his advice freely given and delivered with an obvious sincerity that makes its mark on everyone he meets, or the many times he has joined a Help the Hatters Working Party, rolled his sleeves up, and mucked in.

You cannot put a price on actions such as these, they are what builds successful football teams…….communities…….. and keeps them strong!

We all know that Stockport County is more than just a football club, but it is also clear to us that James Gannon is much more than a football manager, and we are proud to add our good wishes and congratulations to those of many others in the County Family to James on his fine achievement!

In Jim we trust !

Help the Hatters
