Still digesting the news that Stockport would be in `Tier 3` come the notional `end`of lockdown, and pining for readmittance to Edgeley Park to report on County`s progress in the National League hedgegrower headed off to St Cuthbert`s Church in nearby Cheadle this morning , where there was a distinct whiff of positivity in the air as the County Family got stuck into at least trying to make the Xmas of others in our midst slightly better, in the direst of times!

“How so ?” You might reasonably enquire, and the answer is that following discussions with County`s magnificent  Community Foundation, Help the Hatters had decided to join in  partnership with the  Foundation  this winter to support and fund an initiative with the Handy Ladies  a terrific community provider who supply meals to vulnerable and needy individuals and families primarily within the Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme and Bramhall areas of the borough, providing over 140 meals covering the whole of the Borough as they go.

Handy Ladies +1

The work of the Handy Ladies was a perfect fit for the community ethos of both the Foundation and ourselves, especially as they also work to provide toys to sick children at Francis House who provide end of life support for children and their families, and you can support this brilliant campaign here:-

And you can catch up with just what the SCFC Community Foundation do here:-

Community Foundation joined by Handy Ladies

The resolve of this exciting new joint enterprise with the Community Foundation will be to  provide a substantial amount of toys/gifts to both Francis House and via the “Handy Ladies” throughout the borough to deserving children who otherwise would go without, and today saw a start in this regard as Help the Hatters deposited a substantial donation of toys and gifts at the church, and we were delighted to note also that County`s Manager James Gannon  has generously matched our donation- a truly brilliant gesture !

So, with the groundwork done, it now needed the enterprise to be launched, and the wheels set in motion.

Thus….at 11.30 …at St Cuthbert’s Church……

Help the Hatters dropped off their donated items , soon to be joined by the Community Foundation whose tireless work in the community is deserving of a wider recognition than it gets !

Then the excellent  Handy Ladies took their bow along with a representative of Manchester Rugby Club who have been very supportive of the ladies efforts, and the ladies will be delivering the toys and gifts to Francis House sharpish- another job well done!

3 Organisations 1 Pile of Gifts and Toys !

The morning had gone well, and the main participants were button holed by  https://www.facebook.com/dave.wright.08  who is now putting together one his fabulous videos of the mornings proceedings. This will be published separately, and added to this report at that time.

In conclusion, hedgegrower salutes the magnificent volunteers and workers of…Handy Ladies…….Stockport County Community Foundation, ,and  Help the Hatters, together with  our terrific Manager James Gannon!
