Help the Hatters Update- June 2020
The writer ,
whilst in lockdown mode for the duration, was aware that Help the Hatters have
been busying themselves inside Edgeley Park recently, observing social
distancing norms of course, whilst generally setting about keeping the fine old stadium up to scratch .
So, mask,
gloves etc in bag , along with camera, and the old hack made his way to EP ,
for the first time for 3 months, more than a little tentatively .
The recipients
of the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service were raring to go , and
awaiting orders from a pensive looking gaffer John Gaskin circa 10 am!
A quick look
around revealed just how hard the group have been working inside our spiritual
home.
For starters
painting was well underway under the Danny Stand roof, the walk area was partly
taped off to protect work already done.
It was good to see also that the Danny Stand Disabled Area had received a lick or three , and even better to note that the paint used was a slightly darker blue, which was much to old hedgie`s taste.

Still under the Danny Stand roof Dot, Edd, Dave and Melanie were busily prepping the back wall for some fresh ( white ?) paint. Good job all – and all well distance apart( 2 metres not yer lunatic 1 metre)!
Nearby ….Ray
was laying some blue on the railings whilst…
...........moving along to the Railway End, Dools was applying grey to the steps, at least he was until the monsoon season started.

It was still
raining as your faithful scribe reached the far end of the open stand to find
HtH Secretary Adrian busily attempting to generate sufficient flame to ignite
and clear a small area twixt the corner flag triangle and the start of the
Railway End. Old hedgie left him to it!
Talking corner flag triangle…I found video king David Wright adding finishing touches to what looked an amazingly trim area – gone the weeds…the unwanted grass…the assorted crud….brilliant!
More brilliance
, and absence of crud and weeds ,was in evidence behind the Pop Side ,where those amongst us who dare to venture in
that direction at half time on a match day, may be pleased to hear that the
area now is 100% clear of everything it should be.
And that
only left the Pop Side itself and David
was attending to some power cleaning of the seating area, along with
Terry who is pictured here with the new power cleaner that Help the Hatters
purchased to make lighter work of what is an essential task.
There was of
course time for a brew and a biscuit along the way, and contemplation of the
next session which is on Tuesday next from 10 am.
