Taking a look at FCUM v County
COUNTY TO CHRISTEN FCUM'S NEW GROUND
The first competitive game at FC United's new Broadhurst Park ground sees County the visitors. The team that was formed as a protest movement have always wanted a ground in Manchester and this now comes to fruition. A game against County might not have been their first choice but they had a dry run with a friendly against Wrexham a week or so ago - a team whose arrival always results in special Police demands.
CURRENT FORM
It has taken FCUM seven years to climb out of the Northern Premier (Evostik) League, although they were regularly in the play-offs during that time. Their first game in the National League North saw the Manchester side travel to Gloucester City. It was not to be a successful opener as Obi Onoruo scored on 35 minutes to give City the win.
That game with Wrexham mentioned above, also ended in a 1-1 draw so the Moston side will be very keen to give their supporters a winning start at their new ground.
CURRENT CONNECTIONS
Our hosts on Tuesday include a former County player - although he is very much more an FC United of Manchester player having had at least three spells with the club during their days based in Bury.
Nicky Platt was not in the 16 players on Saturday but former County trainee Liam Brownhill and a trialist at EP back in 2011, Luke Ashworth, were in action. Ashworth was awarded a contract at County after that trial but it was cancelled in a matter of days. County's mass summer clear-out means our players with FCUM experience have now moved on.
FCUM'S SQUAD
The home side made a few late signings taking their summer recruits up to six, but the majority of their squad consists of men who claimed promotion last season. The men who played on Saturday are:
The other men who might well be in contention given that opening day defeat are:
PAST MEETINGS
This will be County's first away game against FC United of Manchester.
PAST CONNECTIONS
Had to cheat a bit with the team of County and FCUM players today - three non-first teamers at County have slipped into the XI due to a shortage of defenders. Aside from the current FCUM players the side includes last season's County men, Kyle Jacobs and Tunji Moses. Tunji moved to Ashton United -who had an impressive 4-0 friendly win at Bamber Bridge on Saturday. Kyle switched to Ashton United and helped them to a 2-0 win over Jim Gannon's Northwich Victoria in their final friendly.
