Supporters Cooperative 5 A Side Tournament - 2015

Well……there’s no flies on the Supporters Cooperative are there!
Just hours after organising another magnificent Band Night at the Bung, they were up and running again at the Stockport Powerleague, where the 2015 Supporters Cooperative 5 A Side Tournament was held!
Andy Plant did a terrific job in putting it all together in aid of the Supporters Cooperative Guardian Account, and there were 4 teams assembled to contest the tournament which consisted of 6 round robin games and a final.

The teams then….

Firstly County Heaven FC who sent messrs Hyde( GK), Hall , Larkin, Gill and Sedgewick into the fray…..




Next came Myatty Army FC, whose line up was  Kherwood( GK), Davenport, Richardson, Skinner, Myatt, Hickman and Robinson…….




Then came Adam Johnson Elite Dev Squad who sent out Southall, Williams, Lee, Wilson and Budd…….




And…..finally….The Yellowboard FC  who called on Pickles ( GK), Openshaw, Burrows, Brown, Woolly and Longden………





With Fran refereeing proceedings we were off with Myatty Army and Yellowboard doing battle.

The Army quickly raced into a 3 goal lead, but 4 goals from Burrows saw YB peg the lead back sharing the spoils in a 4-4 draw.



On….on….and the next game pitched Adam Johnson`s Elites against County Heaven .Steve Hyde was in magnificent form for the Heaveners but Adam`s boys came out 2-0 winners, their greater stamina telling!



Game 3 saw the Elites in action again against Yellowboard who despite a heroic display by the Elite keeper ran out convincing 6-1 winners thanks to goals from the prolific Burrows, Pickles and alzbarberz.


In the fourth game   we saw County Heaven and Myatty`s Army battle out a 3-3 draw in which County Heaven keeper Steve Hyde gave another magnificent performance.
Despite a clutch of goals from alzbarberz ( guesting prolifically)Adam Johnson’s Elite’s notched up an impressive 8-4 win in match 5 against Myattys Army  who were constantly put under the cosh by Richardson.



The final round robin match went Yellowboard’s way emphatically , despite another terrific showing by Hyde for Heaven ,who was Man of the Tournament in my and his team’s view.Goals from Burrows ( 3) and Longy, proved enough to see the Special One`s side through to the final.



The final was The Yellowboard FC v Adam Johnsons’ Elite Dev Squad, and saw a suitably feisty affair in which despite a spirited performance, particular from Chillsons ,who had survived a mugging earlier in proceedings........




...........YB ran out 6-3 winners, goals from Brown (2)Longy, Pickles ( 2) and albarberz securing the trophy for Phil Robinson’s side.

Simply Disgraceful ! This day will rank in infamy    with some of the darkest in our Club`s history- the owners of Stockport County have sacked Jim Gannon…..a dreadful decision......... totally bereft of merit, and one heralded by a shamefully inadequate announcement, as insulting to County fans as it is to Jim. Champions under Jim in our last completed season, fourth in the league after as impressive a win as any Club Chair could wish to witness from his team on Tuesday, despite the interrupted nature of the current season, and clearly playing well, so this smacks of something other than prudence or good decision making and as for being rational and fair………….. Sadly the Club`s owners rather added to the anger their foolish decision has already triggered, by stating that the decision was not results based, but based on `culture`.   Jim is a proven quality Manager , who knows what it takes to make County tick, has done so many times in the past, and   has forgotten more about Co

Wrexham 1 Stockport County 2 ( Vanarama National League) 31 August 2019

“Where`s the goals gonna come from”-is a familiar refrain from those wanting County to ship in a new striker every other week, and County once again fully answered that one with “ from almost everywhere” as goals from defenders Sam Minihan and Ash Palmer secured all the points at the Racecourse Ground today against Wrexham. A 2-0 County lead at half time seemed to signal a rout, but Wrexham fought well upon the re-start and made a real match of it , albeit that an imperious display by County`s superb back line limited them largely to shots from distance. The defensive display from JG`s boys, in the second 45 minutes, if somewhat hard on the nerves, was again excellent , but a late goal to the Welshmen made the last few minutes tenser than perhaps they should have been. Notts County 2 Stockport County 1 ( Vanarama National League) Saturday 23 October 2021

        Perhaps expectations were a touch excessive, after all most visits to Meadow Lane usually result in a stiff test from a home side hell bent on victory. Today was no exception to this as County were outplayed for 94 and a half minutes of the 96 played, by a Notts County side drilled to do the basics correctly, and doing just that. Almost all their passes, no matter the situation, inevitably found a man in a black and white shirt who knew thereafter precisely what they should do with it, whereas if County had no shortage of possession at times, they appeared to be largely lacking a basic pattern to work to that went beyond the sideways pass, and the occasional long ball from Rooney.
