Charity Match: County Supporters v Ex County X1
Edgeley Park
was bathed in warm sunshine today as a County
Supporters team took on one of ex County players in aid of Breast Cancer Charity
`Genesis`.
The Officials. |
A crowd of
over 200 saw a decent match , and although the ex players ran out 9-2 winners
,much credit accrued to the supporters outfit who battled long and hard to keep
the arrears down to a manageable level. Overall considering some of the names
in the players line up, it was a top draw effort !
Matt Glennon
guested for the supporters , but there was nothing he could do 10 minutes in
,as Paul Ennis squeaked his shot in from an acute angle.
Chris Williams on charge...... |
With Chris
Williams and Ennis in lively form, the supporters had their work cut out to
keep them out, but keep them out they did ,and they mounted more than the odd
raid themselves . This solid resistance lasted until the half hour mark when Matt
Broadhead scored from the spot for the players. I must say I would not have
given that one, but it mattered not and within a couple of minutes the players
scored again through Williams after neat work by Ennis and Broadhead had set it
up.
First Half Action. |
The
Supporters rallied after this and Lee Jones the players keeper did well to deny
them . Glennon at the other end did well too keeping a shot from Williams out,
but nearing the break, he could only parry Ennis`s effort ,which teed Williams
up for his second which he put away coolly!
Supporters work hard. |
The last few
minutes of the half saw the Supporters on the charge and Jones did really well
to keep a strike by Matt Edwards out with his legs. The keeper then looked all
at sea next as a beautiful ball from Josh Gittings sent Edwards through again.
It was a definite chance but he dwelt on the ball a tad too long and that was
all Mike Flynn needed to get the blocking tackle in.
More action..... |
4-0 at half
time quickly became 5-0 when Ennis drilled the ball home to double his personal
tally, and then six as this time Ennis lobbed the keeper from outside the box.
This was a
shame because the Supporters had been pressing a bit before this and the number
6 rattled the angle of bar and post with one snorter. But some reward came
their way as another one from distance, from Damian Kirkman, gave the redoubtable
Jones no chance.
Damian Kirkman after netting a belter!! |
The pace was
slowing a bit now , but the players team
were not letting up on the drive for goals , and a
tasty cross shot from Ennis made it 7-1 just after the hour mark.
The supporters
again rallied but Jason Taylor was a veritable rock and did well to deny Gittings,
and Jones was called on again to pull a decent save out to stop Damian Kirkman from adding to his goal tally, but on the break they were
punished as a neat move involving Ennis and Tansey saw Williams dink one over
the diving Glennon to make it 8-1.
Gittings on the ball. |
Loads of
hard graft followed from both sides who deserved credit in the warm conditions,
and it was good to see the Supporters get another ,with less than 10 minutes
left. It fell to Des Hinks who made no
mistake from close in.
Hinks about to score! |
Again the
Supporters pressed after the goal, but they couldn`t get another , and some
dazzling work from Williams ended with
him firing a decent finish past Glennon to make it 9-2.
End of
game?!
Not
quite......as into the dying embers we went with the Supporters pressing again
and winning a penalty, but Hinks put this wide and 9-2 it stayed.
Fare
result.... decent game...top notch entertainment.
Well done
one and all!
