Stockport County 2 Darlington 0 ( Vanarama National League- North) 30 March 2019

Stockport County`s promotion push got a massive boost today as they saw off a decent challenge from Darlington with a 2-0 win in front of almost 5000 at Edgeley Park. I saw no one anything but mightily pleased, after the match, with what had been a good win and an excellent 3 points- won well against a side determined to look for a win themselves.




The win began to look even better with the news that Chorley, the only side ahead of County in the table, had had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw with Chester. That narrowed the gap twixt the leaders and ourselves to 2 points, with the blues having a game in hand as well as a fixture at Chorley to come which they will fancy they can win!
Goals from Adam Thomas and Jordan Keane sorted the victory for County, who for long periods of the first half had to bide their time as Darlington took the game to them. Stockport County 2 Ashton United 1 ( Vanarama National League- North) 26 March 2019

A very decent Tuesday evening crowd of well over 3000 turned out at Edgeley Park last night to urge Stockport County on in their quest for promotion. Wanting 8 wins in 8 to be champions, County duly won the first of them against an Ashton United side that must have feared the worst pre match having been thrashed 6-0 at Hurst Cross back in December.

In truth…despite County establishing dominance early on, there was never any likelihood of that earlier score line being repeated. Yes….County looked capable of winning from the off, and Ashton looked decidedly average, but an essential cutting edge was missing from the County mix last night, which is probably to be expected after the rigours of the last 2 games against Fylde.

It took the blues 37 minutes to get the first goal, via a cheeky back heeled effort from Nyal Bell, and another 30 before Adam Thomas doubled their advantage with the aid of a massive blooper by the United keeper. It must be saidthough that, twixt these goals, both Bell a…
