TRIP TO MOSS ROSE Other demands on my time make this preview a little shorter than usual, as County visit Cheshire neighbours, or should that be County Old Boys, Macclesfield Town. The team from the Moss Rose lost one of their former County players in the summer when Adriano Moke opted to switch to Wrexham for 2015-16. However, they gained Kieron Dennis on a season long loan from the Hatters. As you'll see from the form summary below, he is yet to score for Macclesfield this season, but then again this also applies to all his team-mates. County came back from being 2-1 down against Championship side Bolton Wanderers at Edgeley Park last night, earning a draw via another sensational strike by the imperiously talented Abs Baggie.   The impressive Abs Baggie. With County belaying their status with another impressive showing, in the end it was Bolton who were defending....hanging on....and County who might reasonably have been disappointed at not gaining a winner. That would have been the sole disappointment though, because again the team, despite NY giving just about everyone who turned up minutes on the park, gave us as decent a pre-season display as could reasonably have been expected. For County....Garvin and Rule stood out in midfield, whilst Baggie continued in the same vein as in the 3 games before, giving a crowd pleasing exhibition of sublime skills, but the most impressive thing for me was the balance of the 11 men on the park at any one time...a balance that was not materially adversely eff...

Following the huge success of the recent reunion of County’s Cup Warriors from the 1964-65 season, guardians of the Stockport County Appearance Scheme (SCAN) are currently working on reuniting the magnificent Hatters’ team that created history in 1972 by reaching the League Cup fourth round for the very first time ... November 14 is the provisional date. The journey began with an epic tussle against arch-rivals Bradford City. A 1-1 draw in the first leg at Valley Parade was repeated in the second leg at Edgeley Park so, with penalty shootouts still some way off, a third game was needed on neutral soil. Bolton Wanderers’ Burndon Park was chosen and, on a memorable night, County ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a ‘screamer’ from Mal Russell and an Eddie Garbett penalty. A quick dash through the history books reveals a few interesting facts about Halifax. For starters, I am guessing that you , like myself, thought that it was the French who were responsible for the discovery of the guillotine, but they were not….the dreadful instrument of execution originated in Halifax,in 1286, and in the early 17 th century, and long after, the notorious `Halifax Gibbett’ was still  removing Yorkshire heads from Yorkshire bodies with gruesome regularity. I am guessing too that natives of Halifax are somewhat proud of their history including the above element, and they are even prouder of the fact that William Herschel, of said parish, discovered the planet Uranus in 1766.
