Stockport County 1 Kidderminster Harriers 2( Vanarama National League- North) 28 October 2017

The weather was vile, and matters did not improve on the park today where County served up a dire performance to lose a game against Kidderminster Harriers that they looked to have won. Heard this before? Yes....for sure, and it was all the more painful bearing in mind the abysmal showing that the visitors put up in the first 45 minutes. County were the better side before the break, but totally failed to test Brandon Hall ,between the sticks, for Harriers.  It was no classic then, in fact the football from both sides was distinctly uninspiring, to the extent that surprise probably outweighed   relief when Warburton popped up to take advantage of an error by Hall to give County a half time lead. That should have been that...shut up shop...keep 'em out.......play good attacking football ...win it in style...either way would have done, but instead County's lackadaisical approach to   possession retention ( Gary Stopforth apart) undid them, allowing ...

Iconic Limited Edition County Shirt !

Iconic Limited Edition County Shirt. The  image immediately below of the iconic white shirt with blue chest band shows the inimitable Bill Atkins sealing victory with our second goal in the 2-0 FA Cup victory over Barrow at Edgeley Park in December 1968. Alex Young, with an audacious flick at the Cheadle End, scored the first goal in front of the round’s biggest attendance, 11,645. The former Everton star had made his Hatters’ debut the previous week when nearly 14,000 turned out to watch the club’s £15,000 record-signing help his new team beat Luton 2-0. Atkins again scored our second goal with Freddie Goodwin grabbing the first. County were in a rich vein of form at the time, and their promotion-push was gathering momentum. Six days after the Cup victory Gillingham arrived at EP and were put to the sword, returning to Kent on the wrong end of a 5-0 battering. Big Bill hit a brace, Johnny Price also scored two with Albert Harley adding the other. The Count...

Nuneaton Town 1 Stockport County 3 ( Vanarama National League- North) 21 October 2017

County came back with an emphatic bang at Liberty Way today dispatching hosts Nuneaton Town by 3-1, via goals from Oswell, Stopforth and   a second half free kick from Jimmy Ball. Storm Brian fulminated and raged around CV11   , but County made light of the conditions creating storm conditions of their own with a performance that warmed the perished cockles of every County fans heart in the crowd 737. To be fair Borough mastered the prevailing winds also and played their part in a thoroughly entertaining game that fizzed and sparkled throughout. County had the edge however……up front…where a two pronged attack of Oswell and Warburton   had the Warwickshire side constantly stretched….at the back where Michael Clarke returned in magnificent style( in a 3 with Smalley and O’ Halloran)    and was only denied a clean sheet by a late penalty which I am moved to call harsh. Elsewhere Ian Ormson( or Osman as the team sheet would have it) ...
