Help the Hatters Update 69

Image
Help the Hatters have been in existence since 2008, when Jim Gannon was in his first term as County Manager. We were delighted to support Jim then, and are equally minded now that, happily, he is back with us “ to complete the job” as he would no doubt opine.   Jim Gannon in 2014 at our Car Boot Sale. Last night saw Help the Hatters meet to set out their goals for the near future, and the packed room in the Fingerpost pub was alive with enthusiasm to get stuck in and help the Club and its Manager to the fullest extent. To this end John Fitzpatrick gave a rallying call, first running over the history of 2008 onwards through to the present day, calling on all County fans to unite in assisting Jim to lift the Club from its current parlous position in the football pyramid. Phil Brennan then advised the meeting that the Non League Magazine, would now ensure that £2 of the £3 purchase price would go to Help the Hatters. So…..this excellent magazine wi...

Congleton Town 0 Stockport County 2 ( Cheshire Senior Cup- Rd 1)19 January 2016

County progressed to Round 2 of the Cheshire Senior Cup, and a tie against either Crewe or Altrincham, with a convincing 2-0 win against Congleton Town at Booth Street last night. The North West Counties Premier side made a real game of this, holding County to 1-0 until 10 minutes from time when a goal by John Marsden made the game secure for the pink shirted blues in Jim Gannon’s first game in charge, after his very welcome return. Up until then a fairly decent Tuesday night crowd had watched our hosts plug away gamely without really ever discomforting their opponents. Sam Marshall and Lee Jackson were the pick for Congleton, but with Danny Morton in monstrously good form for County, Marshall faded as the game progressed. For County….I have mentioned Morton, and he did play well, and I thought Montrose put in a shift as did Kevin Holsgrove in his first appearance in County colours for yonks. Elsewhere there was another encouraging, second half, showing from Charlie R...

Things that go bump in the night, Should not really give one a fright, It’s the hole in the ear That lets in the fear That, and the absence of light! It’s a while since I opened, or even used, a Spike Milligan poem to try and make a point, but with County once again in a state of on the field managerial flux, I thought it apt to do so. Fear…..is what had insidiously crept into County play in the latter part of NY’s tenure. After initially looking every bit a team likely to challenge, it all faded away to a series of performances that left more than a little to be desired, virtually ending any hopes of the play offs and seeing us exit early from FA Cup and Trophy competitions . Timidity in midfield allied to raw fear in and around the opposition’s box succeeded in nullifying all that early season promise in a welter of avoidable defeats.   Mike Flynn & Gareth Roberts ( caught by Andrew Machin) Today would hopefully be different. For star...
