By George- The Museums Opened ! Following   a monumental amount of work by Help the Hatters , at last the day arrived when the much vaunted County Museum would be a reality! Happily the day coincided with the 102nd birthday of County Legend George Haigh, who ...even happier.....was due to open the Museum at 7.15 that day! Preparations were well advanced and the Museum was looking brilliant ahead of George's arrival. The spanking new signage over the entrance was unveiled and looked a treat( see above)........... and a spot on Hardcastle Road had been reserved for our hero........ And the presentation area was ready for the short opening ceremony..... Not long after 6 o'clock George arrived....... ....and was soon settling in ...chatting with the locals....... ....sampling his favourite tipple Guinness..... A chat with County Director Steve Bellis......  and it was time for George to open...

As you all know, every year on 29 th June we meet up in the Florist Pub on Shaw Heath, in order to celebrate George Haigh’s birthday, and to chew the County cud. Well, this year is no different, and we will gather on Thursday from 4.30pm This year, we’re absolutely bloomin’ delighted to advise that the great man himself, yes, George Haigh, will be joining us between 5pm & 6pm. Just in case there are any unenlightened readers out there, George is the oldest surviving former County player, and this year, will be celebrating his 102 nd birthday!  George with Man in a Hat in 2015 In fact, we think George is the oldest surviving professional footballer in the world! Can you prove otherwise? This is the occasion on which we indulge in drinking Purple Velvet (port & Guinness), which according to George, was the drink of choice for the County players of the thirties - before the game! So why not drop in and give George your regards. Y...

I have to say that, even for me, I am getting more than a touch excited about the season that beckons...... Last season was the best for a long time , and offered, if there is anyone out there still needing it, clear evidence that things, under the expert guidance of James Gannon, are on the up at Stockport County. It was massively reassuring to see . early doors, that JG had ensured his top performers from last term were signed up again, and this was the basis we could see ,within days of the season's end, of    a good...settled squad. At that stage we had the following committed to at least another season... Ben Hincliffe Ian Ormson Michael Clarke Scott Duxbury Sam Minihan Connor Hampson Harry Winter Jimmy Ball Adam Etches Max Cartwright Chris Smalley Adam Thomas And Harry Brazel and George West were on non contract terms. The most striking thing for me about last season was the consistently excellent play   from...
