Friday, November 14 marked the 50 th anniversary of County’s FA Cup first-round victory over Wigan Athletic, a victory that set the Hatters off on an emotional roller-coaster of an FA Cup run that captured the hearts of the nation; a run that saw Edgeley Park rock to it’s very foundations in a replay against Bristol Rovers; a run that saw the arrival of the inimitable Len White, one of the greatest players ever to pull on a County shirt; a run that saw the Hatters silence the mighty Liverpool Kop; and a run that was touched by heartbreak when inside-forward John Nibloe, who scored the winning goal against Wigan, was tragically killed in a car accident travelling home from a game at Newport a week before the second round tie against Grimsby Town. County became only the second of 8 sides to prevent Fylde winning at home; a result that gives the Hatters the chance of catching them on points when Fylde open our December EP fixtures. In contrast the result meant County lost ground on all the other clubs above them except one. It was second placed Guiseley who were the only top 5 loser and they did so to Barrow who built on their lead in the table. The home side left themselves too much to do as they leaked 3 goals in the last 10 minutes of the first half. With Anthony Wilson (36), Alex-Ray Harvey (40) and Danny Pilkington (44) netting. County`s first, and possibly last, visit to Kellamergh Park, ended satisfactorily with both sides sharing the points after a keenly contested but goalless game   ,that sent both sets of supporters home relatively happy to have seen a decent game end with what was   generally agreed to be a `fair result’. That was certainly my reading of the situation anyway, as both teams gave their all and might have won it but did more than enough to earn a point.   Danny Hurst ,back in goal.
