Formed  in 1879 Kings Lynn have a long and colourful history of progress from parks football to the National League.

With Covid hitting clubs at our level particularly hard,Kings Lynn included,  it is fair to say that they have struggled on the pitch this season, but Dave Challinor will have no illusions that his team will have to produce the goods for 90 odd minutes on 22 March to avoid an unwanted reverse!

 Kings Lynn FC  occupied the Walks from 1881, and from having to erect  canvass sheeting around the ground in 1892 to stop non payers watching games, and staging a game under an  early floodlighting system (  v Wisbech)in 1893  the Walks now has a capacity of 8000 with 1200 of them seated!

A genuine football ground with not a hint of plastic palace about it- hedgegrower cannot wait to get there !

Old hedgie has 2 recommendations for the quenching of a pre-match thirst.

Decent real ale`s can be found at several hostelries , most notably a couple just 0.2 of a mile from the ground:-

 

First off on Goodwins Road ( PE30 5QX) is the Stuart House Hotel-

 



 

Then equidistant on Windsor Road we recommend the beautifully names ` Live & Let Live` ( PE30 5PL)

This day will rank in infamy    with some of the darkest in our Club`s history- the owners of Stockport County have sacked Jim Gannon…..a dreadful decision......... totally bereft of merit, and one heralded by a shamefully inadequate announcement, as insulting to County fans as it is to Jim. Champions under Jim in our last completed season, fourth in the league after as impressive a win as any Club Chair could wish to witness from his team on Tuesday, despite the interrupted nature of the current season, and clearly playing well, so this smacks of something other than prudence or good decision making and as for being rational and fair………….. Sadly the Club`s owners rather added to the anger their foolish decision has already triggered, by stating that the decision was not results based, but based on `culture`.   Jim is a proven quality Manager , who knows what it takes to make County tick, has done so many times in the past, and   has forgotten more about Co

Wrexham 1 Stockport County 2 ( Vanarama National League) 31 August 2019

“Where`s the goals gonna come from”-is a familiar refrain from those wanting County to ship in a new striker every other week, and County once again fully answered that one with “ from almost everywhere” as goals from defenders Sam Minihan and Ash Palmer secured all the points at the Racecourse Ground today against Wrexham. A 2-0 County lead at half time seemed to signal a rout, but Wrexham fought well upon the re-start and made a real match of it , albeit that an imperious display by County`s superb back line limited them largely to shots from distance. The defensive display from JG`s boys, in the second 45 minutes, if somewhat hard on the nerves, was again excellent , but a late goal to the Welshmen made the last few minutes tenser than perhaps they should have been. Stockport County 4 Accrington Stanley 2 ( Football League 2) Saturday 20 April 2024

          A friend captured the situation nicely as we both descended the steps at the Cheadle End “ there are not many days like that” he said ,and he hit the spot perfectly, we had both just come away from a County game that finished as a party as County disposed of the challenge from Accrington Stanley with a comfortable 4-2 win, and the old place dissolved in a glorious mix of excitement, and emotion as the blues were presented with the League 2 Championship trophy! I say that it was comfortable, but I thought Accrington made a good fist of competing at times, in the end beaten by another clutch of top-class goals- 2 from Wootton , who I thought edged M.O.M ,and one each from   Evans and Sarcevic which did the biz for Dave Challinor`s boys. Their 8 th win in succession took County`s points tally with one match remaining to a mammoth 92 points- still 7 clear of the rest and set up a spectacularly good party on the pitch after the final whistle -more on this later in the repor
